Part 2 of the animal sketches were to take 5 of the sketches we did of either the humans or the animals and to push the poses. I had such a great time drawing them as animals that I drew ALL 5 sketches as the animals. I was really surprised in the improvement with a lot of them! Tell me what you think! :)

Bloom
During the winter and near the start of summer break, I was given the opportunity to animate on this short co-directed by the talented Emily Johnstone and Brian Kistler. They were pretty fun and encouraging to work with and I had a good time working with them on this project. Thanks guys!
Here is the description of the short:
Nadine, depressed and alone, has been living her life in the dark. A gift from a friendly neighbor gives Nadine something to live for. With a new life, Nadine has a chance to pay it forward.

Animal Circus
A recent assignment that we had to do in BFA was to draw ten people out in the real world in conversations. Then we had to draw them as animals. After that, we had to draw the same situation, but 20 min later! On this part, we were given the choice of having them as people or animals. This was such an awesome assignment and I was almost jumping in my seat when they mentioned it! I couldn't wait to get my hands dirty.
I think I had a lot more fun drawing the animals than drawing the humans...
Hope you guys enjoy! :)

Wolf Turnaround
I forgot to post the wolf character design that I went with last semester! Oops...here she is, in all her silly glory.
To my surprise, I also got a good response of the diva in the huge sheep coat and the wolf nun. It was such a great and wonderful oppertunity in working on this project. I learned so much about character design that I can use in my future works.

Zoo Trip!
Today, me and my friends were able to go to the Oakland Zoo! Boy, have I missed going...it was tons of fun going and drawing the animals, but I think one of the highlights is hearing some of the funniest things a parent could say to their kids about how much they think they know about animals.
Here are some of the animal sketches.
Some drawings of Lilford Cranes, two Hamerkops on the top, and some drawings of meerkats...how that gesture of some kids ended up on this page is anyone's guess...
Next up are some bats! They're pretty cool to study up close and the way they climb around upside-down is fascinating to watch.
A couple of zebras and green monkeys that were fed some fruit during feeding time...those things they ate were almost as big as their heads!
Crocs...barely move when they're basking in the sun...or floating on the water's surface. It's really interesting to see how the water makes them look smaller than they really are on the surface, but when you look under the water...they are HUGE!

I remember drawing these giraffes last year. Always liked how they sit down and when they drank water, they had to spread their front legs apart in order to get to the water. Oh yeah, and some random ducks that always seem to be in the section for some odd reason...

BFA 2012 Bollywood Intro Video
Hey everyone!
Our first assignment for BFA was to make an intro video. A large group of us got together and decided to work on a group intro video as well. Here is the video in all it's glory. Many thanks to the people that let me join in this fun and exciting music video.

Nice day for a BBQ
Today was a really nice day to be out. I was afraid that it wouldn't be so great to be out since I was invited to a small BBQ with some friends in the park today. It's been so rainy lately. We really got off lucky and had a great time in the sun. :)
Didn't sketch too much today, was too busy stuffing my face with the glorious food.

Congratulations! It's a bouncing baby puppy!
This is kind of old, but there were some good memories while animating this short. It was done for 115's animation "sketchbook" animation. We were given free rein to animate anything we wanted in what I think was a week or two (I think it was a week...forgot). Within that week, all of us busted our butts and some produced really cool animated scenes.
I think the idea of this one started with the idea of a character interacting with its creator. At least that's what I remembered...everything else was a blur of paper and pencil shavings...

The Empress and Uncle Sam
So today a group of us had our annual gift exchange where we illustrate something for each other. This years theme was to do each of our illustrations based the the tarot cards. I had the task of illustrating The Empress for my roommate. It was hard trying to figure out a time when he was out of the room so I could paint this. I was really inspire by the paintings by Rene Gruau and by some of the art deco posters and wanted to do something using Gruau's beautiful linework and the shape design from the posters. I don't think I was able to pull either off as any of the masters, but I had a great time doing it anyways.
Here is a work-in-progress image of The Empress card I illustrated for my roommate.
On Thursday, Crowe came to model and during one of the poses, dressed up as Uncle Sam with what looked like bell bottoms. Here is a cute caricature of him.
